Greater St. Mary's Baptist Church Historic Preservation Improvements

Inclusive of structural stabilization, flood proofing, and several historic preservation elements, the project scope looks to revitalize this historic institution located within the HACRA boundary in Lincolnville. Project cost is estimated at close to $1 million dollars. Partially funded by the African American Cultural and Historical Grant, Greater St. Mary’s was awarded $671k with a $250k match using HACRA funds. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fiscal Year (FY) 2026.

Cordova Street Improvements

Cordova Street, once a part of the Rosario Line, which marked the western boundary of the walled city, is now a vital connection in the center of the HACRA. After amending the Redevelopment Plan, the conceptual streetscape design of Cordova Street became one of the CRA's first capital improvement projects. $189K has been allocated toward design and public engagement efforts. The project is designated for the portion of Cordova from north of Cathedral Place to the northernmost plaza adjacent to the Visitor Center. Project design improvements can include typical cross section, site furnishings, hardscape and landscape treatments with low impact development and green infrastructure.

As part of a robust public engagement process, a unique Cordova Street website has been created to provide information about the project and offer interactive activities such as surveys, maps, and prioritizing improvement options. The website also includes the project schedule, goals for the project, key dates, draft documents, upcoming meetings, meeting summaries, and other relevant project related information as it becomes available. Downtown Landscape Master Plan

The goal of the Downtown Master Plan project is to develop a cohesive landscape master plan for downtown city-owned parcels that will reflect historically appropriate landscape plant material, a resilient landscape for hurricane resiliency and improved recovery, and an improved tree canopy and shade coverage to reduce heat island effect to improve pedestrian comfort for walking and to improve areas around shuttle/circulator stops. The full master plan implementation will address irrigation improvements, limited hardscape improvements and electrical improvements for Nights of Lights infrastructure needs. City-owned parcels include: Lightner Museum, Plaza de la Constitucion, Bridge of Lions, Avenida Menendez and Seawall, VIC center and entry medians, St. George Street, Colonial Quarter, Torques Place, the St. Augustine Police station on King Street and the St. Augustine Fire Department station on Malaga Street.
